Congratulations on the birth of Hays Woodall Marr, son of Jane and Albert Marr and grandson of Anna and Mike Marr, born on August 11, 2000.
We
are continually in the process of updating the Birthday List that appears in
the bulletin each Sunday. If you would
like your family to be included, please call Donnie at 484-2134.
We welcome all newcomers and visitors to Holy
Trinity. Please fill out a newcomer’s
card to be found in your pew and place it in the offering plate or give it to a
greeter after the service. We would be
pleased if you would identify yourself as a newcomer to the Clergy after the
service in order that we can make you feel warmly welcomed.
5 He has sworn to do no wrong*
and does not take back his word.
6 He does not give his money in hope of
gain,*
nor does he take a bribe against the
innocent.
7 Whoever does these things*
shall never be overthrown.
Ephesians 6:10-20
Be
strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the
whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the
devil. For we are not contending
against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers,
against the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spiritual hosts
of wickedness in the heavenly places.
Therefore take the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand
in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having
put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the
equipment of the gospel of peace; besides all these, taking the shield of faith,
with which you can quench all the flaming darts of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the
sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
Pray at all times in the spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all
perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, and also for me, that
utterance may be given me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of
the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains; that I may declare it
boldly, as I ought to speak.
THE GOSPEL
Mark 7:1-7, 14-15, 21-23
Now
when the Pharisees gathered together to Jesus with some of the scribes, who had come from Jerusalem, they saw that
some of his disciples ate with hands defiled, that is, unwashed. (For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, do not
eat unless they wash their hands, observing the tradition of the elders; and
when they come from the market place, they do not eat unless they purify
themselves; and there are many other traditions which they observe, the washing
of cups and pots and vessels of bronze.)
And the Pharisees and the scribes asked him, "Why do your disciples
not live according to the tradition of the elders, but eat with hands
defiled?" And he said to them,
"Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, 'This
people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; in vain do
they worship me, teaching as doctrines the precepts of men.' You leave the commandment of God, and hold
fast the tradition of men." And he
called the people to him again, and said to them, "Hear me, all of you,
and understand: there is nothing outside a man which by going into him can
defile him; but the things which come out of a man are what defile him. For from within, out of the heart of man,
come evil thoughts, fornication, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness,
deceit, licentiousness, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and
they defile a man."

Pray for the Search
Committee:
Almighty God, giver of every good gift, look graciously on your church during this period of transition. We ask that you give the Search Committee guidance and direction in their work for your mission for this parish. Bless them with strength of body and mind and keep them safe as they serve this community of faith. Strengthen each of us as we offer our own gifts and talents in serving you. Direct us in finding a faithful pastor who will care for your people and equip us for your ministry, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Lord
of all power and might, the author
and giver of all good things: Graft in
our hearts the love of your Name; increase in us true religion; nourish us with
all goodness; and bring forth in us the fruit of good works; through Jesus
Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God,
for ever and ever. Amen.
FIRST
READING
Deuteronomy 4:1-9
Moses said, "And now, O
Israel, give heed to the statutes and the ordinances which I teach
you, and do them; that you may live, and go in and take possession of the land
which the Lord, the God of your fathers, gives you. You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from
it; that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command
you. Your eyes have seen what the Lord
did at Ba'al-pe'or; for the Lord your God destroyed from among you all the men
who followed the Ba'al of Pe'or; but you who held fast to the Lord your God are
all alive this day. Behold, I have
taught you statutes and ordinances, as the Lord my God commanded me, that you
should do them in the land which you are entering to take possession of
it. Keep them and do them; for what
will be your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples, who,
when they hear all these statutes, will say, 'Surely this great nation is a
wise and understanding people.' For
what great nation is there that has a god so near to it as the Lord our God is
to us, whenever we call upon him? And
what great nation is this law which I set before you this day? Only take heed, and keep your soul
diligently, lest you forget the things which your eyes have seen, and lest they
depart from your heart all the days of your life; make them known to your
children and your children's children."
PSALM 15
1 LORD, who may dwell in your
tabernacle?*
who may abide upon your holy hill?
2 Whoever leads a blameless life and
does what is right,*
who speaks the truth from his heart.
3 There is no guile upon his tongue; he
does no evil to his friend;*
he does not heap contempt upon his
neighbor.
4 In his sight the wicked is rejected,*
but he honors those who fear the LORD.

Sometimes you find something just too good to keep to yourself, and
today one of our members brought up a website that we want to share with
you. Check into
http;//wwwmissionstclare.com/english/index.html This is a site that puts morning prayer and evening prayer for
each day of the year at your fingertips with the click of a cursor. ---No hunting up the Prayer Book and Bible.
No fumbling for the right page. (Do YOU
know where to find the tenth verse of the third chapter of Habakkuk?) It is all
right there for you to read from the screen.
It names saints of the church for many of the days, and includes special
times and seasons as they occur. When a
saint is celebrated, there is a small bio. so that you can get to know these
folks who are our holy ancestors.
Of particular delight
to some of us is the fact that each day has special hymns to go with it, as
well as service music. If music is nor
your "thing" feel free to skip it, but if it adds to your worship,
the hymns are there for you to hear played, and perhaps even to sing
along. And they are quite various. The first I came upon was "Abide With
Me". I thought "OK, they will
be traditional." The next Morning
Prayer I came to had a marvelous modern Alleluia that positively danced.
There
are not only the traditional prayers of the offices, but also prayers for all
the concerns of daily life. Here is a
way of building worship into your daily life that is as modern and easy as
starting your computer, and as ancient as the Lord's Prayer, and we are so
excited about it that we want to share it
with you.
